Norah Fisher – Personal Profile

Since leaving school, my early training into the secretarial world has been invaluable and opened many doors.

Born and bred in Brighton, where I started my career, I have since then worked in London, and when later in life I found it difficult to pursue my career outside the home due to my disability, I found myself working on various disability groups locally.

Being a person who enjoys interacting with people, I soon built up a network of people who were interested in the same causes.  It was then a friend suggested to me I might enjoy a career in politics – how right she was!

Since I was first elected to serve as a Lib Dem councillor in Worthing, I have served on various committees such as Planning, Licensing, Overview and Scrutiny, and other sub-committees.

I have two sons – Mark aged 39 and Nick aged 35, and three grandchildren, Joshua 9, Rebecca 4, and Dexter 1.  They are all a source of constant pleasure, and I make time to devote to them.

I am a School Governor at Thomas A Becket First and Middle Schools, a role which I enjoy very much as they are both excellent schools.

I am a Director of Worthing Dial-a-Ride Southern Services, and again find this a satisfying and fulfilling role.  This service has been going for many years in Worthing, and provides invaluable help for those who are less able-bodied and need to get out and about.

In Tarring Ward, we have a lively community and last year held a Picnic in the Park in Tarring Park.  This was a successful event, with at least two thousand people attending, bringing their own picnics and joining in the free events that had been arranged.  We’re holding an event again this year, as I feel it’s important to bring the local community together, where people of all ages can enjoy themselves.

I hope to be in a position to serve the local community as a Councillor for many years to come, as there is still work to be done.
