Adur, West & East Worthing Party including East Arun

We will not sit on the fence!

Adur & Worthing Liberal Democrats totally agree with Worthing residents that open spaces such as our parks, sports grounds and our greensward should be kept open for public use for all ages. Schools too should be able to retain their playing fields and not be forced into selling off sections of land to development to pay their bills.

We fully support the Manor Action Group (MAG) along with South Broadwater Residents’ Association, in calling for consultation on fencing-off part of Manor Sports Ground for use by the new Bohunt academy.

Councillor Hazel Thorpe, Leader of the Lib Dem group said: “Parks are public realm shared spaces and should remain so. Victoria Park is a good example of how shared spaces can remain open but still be practical and enjoyable for all, including the local school and dogs too! It is a travesty that the council is even considering putting up barriers and fencing to separate and cordon off the public domain. It sets a poor precedent –  ugly fences are like a red rag to a bull for planners like myself. With a virtual one party state, given that the criteria and conditions for calling in a controversial decision are strict and very limiting, it leaves us with little wriggle room.”
