Charities and individuals can apply for a share of a West Sussex County Council-grants programme that funds community-based activities for adults and older people.

The application process for this year’s Prevention and Wellbeing Grants Programme for has opened.

Voluntary and community organisations and individuals can apply for up to £5,000 out of a total pot of £190,000 to fund start-up costs and social activities for adults including older people.

The aim is for people to get out, make friends and see people, which is just as important as eating healthily.  Among these could be arts and crafts, quizzes or computer courses.

Organisations will receive feedback and payment in August once the applications have been assessed by the relevant County Local Committees.

Peter Catchpole, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “These community-based services and activities will contribute to the aims of our prevention and well-being agenda.

“This goes beyond eating a balanced diet to the emotional and social aspects of an individual’s life and ensuring that people do not feel isolated.”
