Meals on Wheels service

Have a spot of afternoon tea with a new Meals on Wheels service providing sandwiches and cakes.

The service costs £2.50 and is delivered with the lunchtime meal. It offers a wide range of food, from cheddar cheese to chicken mayonnaise sandwiches, plus banana, carrot, chocolate, fruit and lemon cakes, some of which are low in sugar.

A range of salads and yoghurts is also available.

Peter Catchpole, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services, said: “This addition to the Meals on Wheels service is great for those who like a light afternoon snack instead of a full dinner in the evening.

“Meals on Wheels, which is run by WRVS, also supplies a selection of nutritious hot, chilled or frozen two-course meals to adults in West Sussex, who may be leaving hospital or recovering from an illness, or need the meals as they can no longer cook for themselves.”

New users of Meals on Wheels can try out the meals and desserts for five days for just £15 as an introductory offer.

A Meals on Wheels taster event was held at County Hall, Chichester, last week (Thursday October 6) which 112 people attended. They tried out the meals to see if they would take up the service or to sign up a relative for it. Twelve people also signed up to become volunteers for the service.
