Hickstead site dropped from County Council Waste Plan

NORTHLANDS Farm at Hickstead has been removed from the shortlist of sites for possible allocation in the West Sussex Waste Plan.

It was one of nine potential sites for built waste facilities being considered by the County Council to meet the future needs of West Sussex because landfill capacity in the county is running out.

However, representatives of the owners of Northlands Farm have told the County Council that the land is no longer available for waste management uses.

Lionel Barnard, Deputy Leader of the County Council and Cabinet Member responsible for waste, said: “This means it is no longer appropriate for us to continue assessing what role the site may play in meeting future demand.

“With regard to the remaining sites, no decisions have been made about which ones should be included in the Waste Plan.

“There will be the opportunity for the public to comment on the Draft Waste Plan before it is approved by the County Council and the South Downs National Park Authority.”
