New status for recruitment service

Paritas, which helps people in West Sussex who have mental health issues or a history of mental ill health to enter or get back into employment, is now a Community Interest Company called Working & Learning Opportunities.

Since its formation in 2007 by West Sussex County Council and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Paritas has dealt with more than 200 candidates and successfully placed 125 into paid employment.

This is an average of more than 62% compared with a national average of less than 25%.

Paritas has also provided mental health and wellbeing training to more than 300 public sector managers, changing minds and significantly reducing the stigma of mental ill health in West Sussex.

Graham Tyler, Deputy County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “Work & Learning Opportunities is now building on this impressive record of placing people into paid employment and the County Council will continue to offers its full support to this newly formed Community Interest Company.

“When it is known that one in every four people in the UK will at some point in their lives have a period of mental ill health, it is fantastic to know Work and Learning will be there to help people back to the road of recovery and into paid employment.”
