New website offers chance to buy historic West Sussex photos

Would you choose an unusual historic photograph of West Sussex to have hanging in your home?

West Sussex County Council’s Record Office has some of the largest archives of historic pictures in the country.

Now, for the first time, you can go online and browse the collections to buy a copy for yourself – or your friends.

From blacksmiths and horses through to shots of the Home Guard and wartime weddings there are dozens of photographs to choose from.

Images can be put on a jigsaw, coffee mug, mouse mat or even keyrings.

Buying is easy: all you need to do is go online, find your favourite picture, select how you would like it reproduced and select your order.

Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council Deputy Leader who is responsible for the Record Office, said: “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful collection of historic photographs in our vaults.

“Whether you want a picture hanging in your home or an unusual photo mug that stands out from the crowd this new site has a great selection to choose from.

“It already has a wide range of photographs and more are being added every month.”

Prices range from £5 for a small print, fridge magnet or key ring, through to £15 for a photo t-shirt, £17 for a jigsaw or £100 boxed canvas print.
