Web Pages Will Help People Get Ready for a Right Royal Diamond Jubilee

West Sussex County Council has launched a series of pages on its website to help people make the most of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June.

The pages are packed with details of events as well as advice for residents still thinking about holding a street party during the extended holiday weekend from June 2-5.

People and organisations can also use the County Council’s free ‘what’s on’ pages to post details of events they are staging to mark the occasion.

Among the events listed so far on the website is a May 30 film and photo evening at the West Sussex Record Office, including footage of King George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935, The Queen’s Coronation in 1953 and the Silver Jubilee in 1977.

On June 8 there is a guided walk round Chichester showing people the sites that Queen Elizabeth 1 might have seen during her reign.

There are also a series of illustrated talks taking place at various venues with Martin Heyes, County Local Studies Librarian, describing how West Sussex marked the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.

The web pages at also have details of a Diamond Jubilee photo competition.

Lionel Barnard, Deputy Leader of West Sussex County Council, who is responsible for Libraries and the Record Office, said: “There is already an impressive list of events to mark a truly historic event for The Queen and the nation, and I hope people will find the website pages useful.”
