West Sussex organisations are takeover targets
ORGANISATIONS in West Sussex are being encouraged by the County Council to become takeover targets – and take part in Takeover Day 2011 on November 11, which is organised by the Children’s Commissioner for England.
Peter Evans, County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “Takeover Day gives children and young people across the country the chance to work with adults and get involved in decision-making in all kinds of organisations.
“It is not only the children and young people who benefit from Takeover Day. The organisations can also gain from a fresh insight into their activities.”
This was endorsed by a 16-year-old boy who took part in last year’s Takeover Day.
He said: “I was with a number of people looking at designs for a new building. I got to tell planners which design I preferred and why.
“I’m really glad I was there. They really listened and said I’ve changed the way they think about what will work.”
Last year around 40,000 children and young people worked with hundreds of organisations, including businesses, schools, police and fire services, newspapers, banks, TV and radio stations, charities, local councils, MPs, hospitals and government departments.
“This year we want you to help us raise it to 50,000,” said Peter.
